At this FoDH Talk Julian Watson explains some of the projects making Creative Banff, writing, artist studio, silversmithing and more.

Entry to FODH talks is open to all (FoDH and HS members free, otherwise a nominal charge).  FoDH membership is £10 to end of 2017.

 

Treasures of Historic Banffshire (until 26/Feb/17)

Celebrates the local Celtic and Pictish archaeology of national significance. The Deskford Carnyx and a replica, pieces from the Gaulcross Hoard, and a complete replica of the Gundestrup Cauldron. An outstanding exhibition. Linked activities:

Sat 26th Nov  Family Activity Day (free)

Free entry to Duff House (no registration needed), but also (11-4pm) included:

  • object handling sessions with Aberdeenshire Museums Services;
  • Celtic Creation Station for families;
  • Talks by David MacPhail, author of “Thorfinn the Nicest Viking” childrens’ books.

At 5pm from Banff Low Street “Walk of the Carnyx”; led by a Carnyx (incl blowing a replica) with puppets and lanterns, to Banff Castle. Outside light projection shows at the Castle at 5.30pm and 7.30pm; refreshments available. This is a COAST event.

Sun 27th Nov  Family Activity Day (free)

Free entry to Duff House (no registration needed), but also included:

  • intriguing Iron Age tales with costumed storytellers (1-4pm);
  • Celtic Creation Station for families (11-4pm).
  • 12.30pm Guided Walk around Duff House woods (for about an hour);
  • 2.00pm Guided Tour of Duff House (for about an hour).

Gordon Casely gives more stunning photography and delightful tales, this time from his and Jinty’s cycle tour. This is the last of the 2016 autumn series of FoDH Talks.

Sat 3rd Dec 12-4pm  “A VERY VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS”

The Duke of Fife welcomes you to a 19th century Christmas at Duff House;

  • learn where our festive traditions originate from;
  • period object handling;
  • craft activities;
  • safari;
  • some indoor games in the Long Gallery;
  • with a period piano atmosphere throughout the House.
