WHAT’S ON January 2020

All Jan:  Masterpiece: Monet’s “Seascape”

This is one of the earlier works by the impressionist Monet, painted with a palette knife and brush. Included in House admission.

 

All Jan:  Exhibition “Darg and Drams”

The artist Kate Steenhauer displays many of her works from projects studying various industries. Come and see a wide range of local scenes from a cooperage, a heliport, Aberdeen harbour, a Wool Mill and a Livestock auction.  Until 21 Jun ‘20; included in House admission.

 

Sun 5th Jan:  On the twelfth day of Christmas …..

11.00  Guided tour for an hour: the inside of Duff House – followed by lunch?

13.15  Grounds guided walk for about an hour, incl inside the Mausoleum; will you see the “monkey puzzling” lights in the woods?

14.30  Piano recital in the Grand Salon (until 15.15 to allow for afternoon tea) in   the shadow of the 12ft Christmas Tree with 2,000 lights – the last day on   display this season.

Thu 23rd Jan:  Cullen House.  FoDH Talk at 2pm (see Note below).

Local photographer Colin Shearer will not only tell us the story of Cullen House, but show us, including some of his fantastic local pictures.  The site has been in use since at least the 13th century and the present building from the 16th century, with a varied and interesting history.

 

Thu 30th Jan:  A Festival in the North.  FoDH Talk at 2pm (see Note below).

Everyone knows of the Portsoy Boat Festival, but this is about the 2019 Trondheim National Festival, featuring an amazing 250 boats together with maritime crafts, demonstrations and wonderful hospitality.  Lorna Summers, who has researched boatbuilding communities and given us a great talk previously, was lucky enough to spend time with Forbundet Kysten, the Norwegian Coastal Federation, and will share some of her experiences and sights.

 

Important Note:  The popular FoDH Talks are held at the Fife Lodge Hotel, Sandyhill Road, Banff AB45 1BE (NOT at Duff House); all welcome, no booking needed.  

From 12 noon: wide range of lunches start being served in the Dining Room;

2.00pm: FoDH illustrated Talk for about an hour.  Everyone welcome; FoDH members (just £10 for the year) have free entry, otherwise £4/Talk.

3.00pm onwards: Afternoon tea/coffee & cake served for attendees – at a discounted price!
